Considering Adoption?
Adoption may not seem like an obvious choice when considering your pregnancy options. After all, there are many preconceived ideas that have led mothers to believe they’re “giving up” their children.
Though adoption is often emotionally complex, it shows that you want to give your child a promising start and a bright future. It’s a loving, selfless decision that should be celebrated, not scorned.
Care Net Pregnancy Center of Wayne County does not facilitate adoptions, but we can discuss this option and refer you to adoption agencies that provide more information. You can make an empowered and informed decision.
If you’re interested in adoption, you’ll want to learn more about the three available plans: open, semi-open, and closed.
Open Adoption
With an open adoption, you’ll form a relationship with the adoptive family and your child. Communication may vary but can occur through regular visits, letters, phone calls, and more.
Semi-Open Adoption
A semi-open adoption facilitates contact between you and the adoptive family through a third party, like an adoption agency or attorney.
Closed Adoption
A closed adoption offers the most privacy. Though more uncommon than an open adoption, this plan may be a good option for women who prefer confidentiality. You and the adoptive family won’t contact each other; all identifying records are sealed.
Making Your Adoption Decision
You’re in control when you select adoption. You can choose the adoptive family and participate in every step of the process. What’s more, you won’t pay for any adoption-related services and may have extra expenses, including housing and material support, covered.
But you need the facts before making this decision; no one can force you into it.
Care Net Pregnancy Center of Wayne County provides free, private adoption information and referrals. Before deciding, you’ll learn about the adoption process and have your questions answered.
